MASTERCLASS GEOFFREY SMITH

The director of brilliant English documentary ‘English Surgeon’ (RESTART Label) and co-director of ‘Presumed Guilty’ (competing at the 8th ZFF) will hold a special Masterclass for documentary film directors and those interested in auteur documentaries. On an interactive session, Geoffrey will present some skills which are fundamental for modern documentaries. Some of the topics to be discussed include: the relation between director and protagonist, storytelling and dramaturgy, and techniques and strategies of directing in a documentary film.
Geoffrey Smith won multiple awards for his directing and producing work in documentaries. He is Australian, but lives in UK. He made more than 20 documentaries, mostly for TV, for all major British broadcasters. His first auteur documentary, ‘English Surgeon’, was shown on some 100 festivals throughout the world, winning around 20 awards, including Best Documentary Awards at Hot Docs and Silver Docs and Audience Award in Sheffield. He was also awarded at ZFF. His latest documentary, ‘Presumed Guilty’, which he co-directed, is just touring all major festivals.
