Starting with March 18, film ‘Winter’s Bone’, feature winner of Sundance Film Festival 2010. and one of the films from last year’s ZFF Main Competition will be regularly screened in Cinema EUROPA. The story, directed by acclaimed US director Debra Granik is situated in one of the amphetamine producing mountain communities where 17 year-old Ree Dolly (J. Lawrence) embarks on a mission to find her father after he uses their family house as a way of securing his bail and disappears without a trace. Faced with the possibility of losing her home and being turned out into the Ozark woods (Missouri), Ree challenges her outlaw kin’s code of silence and risks her life to save her family. She hacks through the lies, evasions and threats offered by her relatives and begins to piece together the truth.
Besides being widely praised for it’s authentic depiction of mountain community, film has earned accolades for extraordinary acting - Jennifer Lawrence that has been previously unknown to wider audiences earned Oscar nod as well as her co-star, John Hawkes who plays her raw but honest uncle Teardrop. ‘Winter’s Bone’ was also nominated for Oscar in Best Film 2010. category and Best Adapted Screenplay (Debra Granik and Anne Rosselini). Film premiered in Croatia during Zagreb Film Festival in October 2010 and it’s regular theatrical distribution starts on March 18. After Zagreb’s Cinema EUROPA, film will be screened in Art-kino Croatia (Rijeka) and kino Valli (Pula).
